How does a CARE Conference work?

The CARE conference format is a hybrid live/virtual model.

Local participants: Some participants will join the conference at a location where speakers are convening and where the technical resources are based. They will use a low carbon means for travel. When low carbon travel is not possible, carbon offsets should be purchased. Please visit our page regularly to find out about future conferences.

Twitter Participants: Do you live too far away from the central conference location to participate in person and lack a level of infrastructure to receive an interactive broadcast? You can receive a broadcast for the duration of the conference via a YouTube Channel. You can ask questions in real time - via Twitter. This is called a ‘Twitter Interactive Virtual Hub’. You should gather all of the people in your city who will join the conference. This is a great networking opportunity – a valuable chance for sharing chronobiology with scientists from other disciplines. Try to travel by carbon neutral means also at the virtual hubs – and pay for carbon offsets if that is not possible!

Fully interactive virtual hubs:  Do you live too far away from the central conference location to participate in person? You can receive a broadcast for the duration of the conference together with other local participants. You can ask questions and discuss with the speakers ‘in person’.

CARE conferences support environmental sustainability

Our fellow scientists have predicted catastrophic climate change. Most scientists accept this analysis yet few of us have changed our habits - traditional conferences involve hundreds of participants traveling from all over the world. Travel for these conferences is at odds to basic scientific responsibility. Although there is a need for occasional, large conferences that bring scientists from all over the world together, there is also a need to rethink the traditional conference structure and format. CARE conferences do this.
